Founded in 1272, the University of Murcia is the main university in the city of Murcia, Spain. With 38,000 students, it is the largest university in this province.
The majority of the University’s facilities and buildings are spread over four campuses: the older is located in the town centre, and the larger set in a suburb three miles from Murcia. A third campus for Medical and Health Studies is located four miles from downtown and another one dedicated to sports activities thirty-five miles southwest of Murcia.
The university comprises more than 35 buildings including several branch campuses, research institutes, academic centers and sport facilities. The University also boasts two extensive libraries within its walls and more than 3000 reading areas. Sport facilities include sports halls, football and rugby pitches, seven-a-side football pitches, aerobic and weight rooms, a gymnasium, tennis and squash courts, training areas, a climbing wall and an indoor swimming pool.
The facilities management department of this 38,000-student university wanted to address multiple maintenance problems due to the increasing volume of work orders and improve their ability to manage assets across multiple locations. They also wanted to perk up the efficiency of its workforce and reduce overtime hours.
The overall goal was to centralize maintenance and operations processes into an integrated, maintainable workflow that meets the daily operational and reporting needs of the University’s maintenance management department.
The University’s main objective was to better control operating costs while maintaining a first-class campus. The University wanted to deploy a CAFM an Asset Management system to help them manage all facilities and building operations in order to render service to 38.000 people, among students and lecturers. The University of Murcia selected Rosmiman® Facilities Management software and Rosmiman® Mobile for managing all their fixed and mobile assets.
In collaboration with the Department of Information Technology and Computer Science, The University of Murcia carried out successfully the implementation of Rosmiman Facilities as a corporate tool for managing all assets, including property management, facility maintenance, work order management, space use, equipment tracking and more.
When using the Campus wireless network, Rosmiman® Mobile for mobile devices allowed maintenance staff to carry out all field based activities including: health & safety inspections, work orders, service activities, preventative maintenance activities, inventory physical count and custom data collection tasks (i.e. Meter readings).
The use of Rosmiman® Facility Management software helped them to manage more efficiently all aspects of the day-to-day facilities maintenance and operations including custodial and maintenance services, mechanical and electrical systems, elevators, utility supply, grounds care, heating and cooling, engineering and energy conservation and the preservation and restoration of the campus landscape.
It also helped them to better manage all contracted services such as elevators, window cleaning, metal maintenance, waste removal and recycling programs, metal maintenance, and pest control.
